ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP)—A report says Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's political action committee raised nearly $733,000 in its first five months.

A report filed Monday with the Federal Election Committee shows receipts totaled $732,867.70 in the period between Jan. 1 and June 30.

The former GOP vice presidential candidate launched the committee, SarahPAC, in late January, saying the goal was to help support candidates for federal and state office.

The report says SarahPAC made total disbursements of more than $276,000 and reported nearly $457,000 cash on hand.

Earlier this month, Palin announced she will resign as governor effective July 26, fueling speculation she will seek the presidency in 2012.

History will show that the starting point of the grassroots movement to draft Sarah Palin as president began at a Denny's Restaurant in West Haven, Connecticut.

On Tuesday evening, the 2012 Draft Sarah Committee -- operating independent of any candidate or political organization -- held its first meeting to gin up support for the Alaska Governor's White House run.

The group, which is planning more events in the future, claims to be the first in the nation to fundraise on behalf of a theoretical Palin candidacy. That advocacy for the conservative Alaskan extends into firmly Democratic Connecticut underscores the political clout Palin earned among hard-core conservatives during the 2008 campaign. But it's hard to imagine that Palin plays well in broader New England.

First Gov. Sarah Palin Meet-up Held in West Haven, CT

The first meet up for the 2012 Draft Sarah Committee was held Tuesday, March 10th at 6:30 pm in West Haven, CT at the local Denny's restaurant.

The event was covered by Abbe Smith of the New Haven Register. She was interested in the reasons why people were supporting Gov. Palin and took copious notes about our Commitee. A photographer was there, so we might expect a fairly detailed feature article. (will provide a link when available.)

Gov. Sarah Palin Meet-ups will be held in towns and colleges across the country the second Tuesday of every month. The next scheduled meet-up is Tuesday, April 14th.

The idea is for people of like interests to meet informally on the second Tuesday of each month. No official talks, or speeches. Just some coffee, a bite to eat and a chance to chat.

Poll: Palin 2012 frontrunner for GOP

A new CNN poll shows Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin leading potential 2012 GOP primary opponents.

The survey of 429 Republicans showed Palin at 29%, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at 26 percent, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney at 21 percent and Louisiana Gov. Gov. Bobby Jindal trailing the field with 9 percent.

The poll has a margin of error of 4.5 percent.

A new poll by Alaska pollster David Dittman of Dittman Resarch shows that Gov. Palin still enjoys plenty of support from those who live in Anchorage. By a margin of 56% to 37%, Anchorage residents say that she should be given another term.

Majority Of Republicans Want Party To Be More Like Palin

While the media and political elites debate the future of the GOP, rank and file Republicans see see no need to deviate from the party's current path. According to a recent Rasmussen poll, a plurality of Republican voters think the party has grown too moderate over the past eight years, and a majority think the party should become more like controversial Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

These sentiments echo the view of new RNC chairman Michael Steele, who in an interview on Fox News yesterday strongly iterated that the GOP's troubles stemmed not from their governing policies but their failure to successfully sell those policies to the American people:

We failed to lead," said the former Lt. Maryland Governor. "The principles we espoused [in 1994] are still true and good today and that's not what people moved away from us for. They moved away from us because we behaved badly. We came to Washington and we became like the people we were sent here to replace. And they replaced us."
Newt Gingrich, the leader of the Republican Revolution in the early 90s, sees Palin as a "formidable" candidate amid a very open Republican field for the 2012 presidential race:

In what could be a preview of the 2012 presidential race, Sarah Palin and Barack Obama will share a stage together this Saturday night in Washington, D.C., Politico has learned.

The Alaska governor and former GOP vice presidential nominee, making her first trip to the nation’s capital since the election, will join the President at the Alfalfa Dinner, a venerable gathering of the city’s political elite.

Palin and Obama will both address the black tie crowd at the Capital Hilton, aides to each say.

The duo will not, though, be heard by the general public. By tradition, the old world gathering, now in its 96th year, bars reporters. Quotes from the rostrum do, however, tend to find their way out to reporters in the lobby.

It’s a light-hearted affair, with political types playfully roasting themselves and one another. The dinner is put on by the Alfalfa Club, an exclusive list of about 200 movers and shakers whose only purpose is to throw the annual dinner on the last Saturday of January. The name is honor of a plant known to do anything for a drink.

Comprised of mostly older white men, the group didn’t induct women until 1993. Blacks were only welcomed in the 1970s.

Presidents, though, almost always attend and speak.

And aside from the real thing, club members always nominate a mock candidate for the highest office in the land. The “nominee” is then required to give an acceptance speech.

Should Palin be this year’s lucky nominee, she’ll be in good company: Three honorees have actually gone on to actually become president – Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush.

Traveling with one of her ladies-in-waiting and invited by a rich GOPnik, she'll be at Saturday's invite-only/political mandarins-only Alfalfa Club dinner in DC. This club began back aways to honor Gen. Robert E. Lee whom, you may recall, did a little something in the Civil War. Why it exists, I don't know. What it does, I don't know. I only know it's too exclusive to include someone like me and is so high-powered that sitting US presidents attend, which means Obama should show. Anyway, Sarah will be there, and that's meaningful because this lady may only leave the frozen tundra two days a month.

She's also launching her national political action committee. Registered in Virginia, patterned after Hillary's HillPac, Sarahpac.com is to support ideas and candidates who share the Palin vision that energy independence is this country's future.

Next month she addresses a Washington gathering of prominent conservatives. She's going ahead with a book. Her Facebook page has 410,000 friends. She wants to influence policy knowing the nation must turn to Alaska as its energy resource. She's planning to be president.

Fresh off his runoff victory Tuesday night, Georgia Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss credited Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin with firing up his base. “I can't overstate the impact she had down here,” Chambliss said during an interview Wednesday morning on Fox News. “When she walks in a room, folks just explode,” he added. “And they really did pack the house everywhere we went. She's a dynamic lady, a great administrator, and I think she's got a great future in the Republican Party.” Chambliss said that after watching her campaign on his behalf at several events Monday, he does not see her star status diminishing within the party.

The Republican also thanked John McCain and the other big name Republicans that came to Georgia, but said Palin made the biggest impact. “We had John McCain and Mike Huckabee and Gov. Romney and Rudy Giuliani, but Sarah Palin came in on the last day, did a fly-around and, man, she was dynamite,” he said. “We packed the houses everywhere we went. And it really did allow us to peak and get our base fired up.” But as Chambliss heaped praise on Palin and other big-ticket Republicans that came to Georgia on his behalf, he questioned why President-elect Barack Obama would not use his star power to aid his Democratic opponent Jim Martin.

“I have no idea why he didn't come down,” Chambliss said. “His people were here. His organization was here,” he added. “They really did a good job in the general election of turning out people. Fox News Scores First Post-Election Interview With Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin will sit down for her first post-election interview with FOX News Channel's Greta Van Susteren.

Van Susteren will be traveling to Alaska for an extensive interview with the state's governor, which will air Monday at 10 p.m. ET on the FOX News Channel.

Fox News beat out several other networks to be the first to talk with Palin after her failed vice presidential bid, including requests by Barbara Walters, Oprah Winfrey, Larry King and others.

Palin is coming off a whirlwind nine weeks of almost nonstop travel and campaigning since becoming John McCain's running mate in late August. The governor has returned to her home state, where she said she is looking forward to getting back to her day job.

In recent days, she has been facing a hail of criticism from some former McCain campaign staffers who say that she was misinformed about several foreign affairs issues and was at odds with McCain strategists.
